Turkish MP and member of Peace and Democracy party (BDP) Nezir Karabas stated that his country should apologize to Armenian nation for the massacres of 1915.
Speaking at the congress in a Denizli Province party office, Karabas said: “Armenians and a number of historians assert that one and a half million Armenians were massacred, whereas Turkish sources say 300.000-500.000. The figures are not that important. As a result, a million of Armenians were killed. They were displaced from their homes and country, including women and children. Over a million Armenians were driven to a Syrian desert, most of them were killed. Instead of denouncing these events and ask for forgiveness, just as several other countries, Turkey says no genocide was perpetrated. The Republic of Turkey should apologize to three nations: Armenians-for massacres, Kurdish — for some joint sins and Turkish nation-for keeping this secret for over 90 years and distorting the facts.”
